Mellow Minnie

I am at my daughter's house today watching her two little girls, Nora who is three and Zoe who is two. I have done nothing productive so far but sit and watch them play with Minnie, their cat. Now that is one patient cat. She is old so you would think she would be getting a little grumpy like the rest of us old people. But not MInnie! She is one of those "people" who has mellowed with age.

When the girls werebabies, she would let them hold onto her tail and pull them across the hardwood floor. Today, she was letting them capture her in their mesh doll's bed. She "plays" hard to get, and then sits down and lets them put it on top of he. Today, she isn't Minnie, she is a lion in a cage.

I have learned several things from watching this "production" of Minnie the Lion today. First of all, these kids don't need any new expensive toys for Christmas. No toy would be as much fun as Minnie. (Although Zoe has asked for a pet goat for Christmas, she can't decided whether she wants it to be pink or blue.)

I've also learned that mellowing with age rather than becoming grumpy is better for me and for those around me. Although I am not sure that i would feel mellow if I was captured and put into a cage.

And Minnie and the girls has shown me another side of love. When it comes to the ones we care about, we will tolerate just about anything they want  us to do for them. If cats can feel love, I think Minnie's love for these girls gives her the patience and allows them to turn her into a lion.

So Moms, it is your love for your kids that turns you into nurse, teacher, chauffeur,
seamstress, cook, laundress, cleaning lady, etc. Be patient, it may seems like this phase of life is never ending, but it isn't. It will be gone in such a short time. And then you will get to be a gramma. Patience pays off!
