Promises I can Count On

On Christmas Eve, my pastor preached a sermon about promises. He said the promise is only as good as the person who makes them. Since that evening what he has said has come back to me many times, I just can't seem to get away from it.

Today is New Years Day, 2011. As I go into this year, I know only one thing for certain. God goes with me. He promised, and His promises are good and I can count on them.

I spent the morning doing the things I love to do. I got to read for awhile and then I sat and played my piano for about an hour. Some of the songs I played are from way back when I was first learning to play. Most of them are old hymns that I grew up with. Hymns that talk about promises that I can count on. One of them was particularily special to me today. The words go like this:

I don't know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day;
I don't borrow from it's sunshine, for it's skies may turn to gray;
I don't worry o'er the future, for I know what Jesus said,
And today I'll walk beside Him, For He knows what is ahead.

I don't know about tomorrow, It may bring me poverty,
But the one who feeds the sparrow, Is the One who stands by me;
And the path that be my portion May be through the flame or flood;
But HIS presence goes before me, and I"m covered with His blood.

Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow, And I know who holds myhand.

Thank you Ira Stanphill for writing those words and putting them to beautiful music.
